What it's for

What it does in your package

A rigid tray holds the device. The lid closes the tray and becomes the porous, peelable side of your sterile barrier system. Our lids carry a heat-seal coating on the side that faces the tray. On your sealer, heat and pressure bond that coating to the tray flange.

Tyvek® lets sterilant gas pass through while acting as a barrier to microorganisms. That is why a coated Tyvek® lid works for EtO, and it is also compatible with gamma and e-beam. When the device is needed, the user peels the lid back from the flange.

Tyvek® 1073B is the heaviest and strongest medical grade. That strength matters when the device is heavy or has sharp edges, as orthopedic implants and surgical kits often do, because those loads stress the lid in shipping and handling.

Typical applications include

  • Orthopedic implants
  • Orthopedic instruments
  • Surgical kits
  • Heavy or sharp devices in rigid trays

Ordering

How ordering works

  • Send a tray spec or CAD file and we will cut prototype lids in weeks, not months.
  • Matching a lid that's already validated? Send the lid spec, its revision and the material callout, and we cut to it as written.
  • There is no minimum order, and production typically ships in 2–3 weeks from your PO.
  1. 01

    Send a spec

Share a spec or CAD file, your customer's spec with its part number and revision, or a sketch or sample part if you don't have a spec yet. Tell us the tray or pouch it goes with and your sterilization method.

  2. 02

    Samples or first articles

For a new design, ask about samples. We cut prototypes from the production material in weeks, not months, so you can test fit and seal early. For a part that is already validated, we cut first articles to check against the approved spec. A first-article inspection report is available on request.

  3. 03

    Production, any size

No minimum order on parts we cut. Production typically ships in 2–3 weeks from your PO, and reorders are cut to the same spec revision and material.

FAQ

Common questions

All FAQs

Which trays do the lids seal to?

Our coated Tyvek® lids carry a pattern heat-seal coating and seal to rigid trays. Tell us your tray material and we will advise on the coating.

The heat-seal coating makes the bond, so your tray material and sealing settings both affect the result. Validate the seal on your own tray and equipment as part of your ISO 11607-2 process validation.

Why are the lids made from Tyvek® 1073B?

Tyvek® 1073B is the heaviest and strongest medical Tyvek grade. It resists puncture and tearing, which suits heavy or sharp devices such as orthopedic implants and surgical kits. We cut each lid in our ISO Class 8 cleanroom from sourced heat-seal coated 1073B. If 1073B is more than a light device needs, or your validated spec calls for a different grade, tell us the device weight, the spec and your distribution test plan.

Can I get tabbed or printed lids?

Yes. A peel tab gives the user a clear place to grip and start the peel. Lids are available printed or unprinted. Send your artwork and the tab position with your spec, and we will include them in the quote.

Which sterilization methods can I use?

Coated Tyvek® lids are compatible with EtO, gamma and e-beam. Steam is not yet confirmed, so ask us before you plan a steam cycle. Compatibility depends on grade, coating, and your process. Validate in your own sterilization cycle.

What sizes and shapes can you cut?

We die-cut lids as individual pieces (eaches) to fit your tray's sealing flange. The outline, corner radii and tab position follow your spec or CAD file. Send the tray spec with your request so we can match the flange.

Can I get samples?

Request samples on the quote form. Tell us your tray material, lid dimensions, sterilization method and whether you need a tab or print. We will come back with questions and a sample plan.
